Not too far from Chicago, the City of Evanston is planning a large diameter sewer rehabilitation project to improve the city’s sewer system. The project is to take place over the next five years using Cured-In-Place-Pipe lining method. Over the next five years this Chicago neighboring city plans to reline a total of 13, 156 feet of large diameter sewer mains. Evanston’s sewer system began in the late 1800s to early 1900s, consisting of a relief overflow system, a storm water system and a combined sewer system, which is the main focus of this current project. The sewers that are expected to be relined during the duration of the project range from 36” to 60” in diameter. The beginning of the project is planned to start in the summer of this year, starting with Central Park Avenue and Main Street. Relining at Central Park Ave to Simpson Street the length of sewers to be relined is 4,001 feet with pipes ranging from 36”-48”. Next Main Street to Sheridan Road will add another 1,362 feet of pipe relining ranging from 36” to 42” in diameter. The City of Evanston plans to have the total of 5,363 feet of sewer pipes relined by early 2014.
